A free toolkit by someone who got tired of overpaying on rental cars
I built RentRight because I kept getting screwed by rental car companies.
Bogus damage claims showing up six weeks after a return. Mystery $70 refueling charges I couldn't dispute because I had no proof of the fuel level. Counter agents pushing $30/day insurance I already had through my credit card. Standing at a kiosk trying to do math on a four-figure bill before signing.
I'm an engineer, so I started building tools to fix each of these. FillItRight calculates the exact gallons to add before return so I never overpay at the pump. CheckItRight walks me through a timestamped photo inspection at pickup so I have evidence if a damage claim shows up later. CostItRight shows the real all-in cost of a rental after every hidden fee. Every tool exists because I ran into that exact problem on a real trip and thought "there has to be a better way."
RentRight launched in early 2026. It's now used by hundreds of renters every month worldwide. Still just me running it.
Hunter Givens — solo developer, frequent rental car customer, frustrated by an industry that operates on hidden fees and aggressive add-ons. I previously built Let's Go Family Trip, a family-trip planning tool. RentRight was the natural next thing because I wanted my own rentals to stop costing more than they should.
I run RentRight as a side project. There's no team, no investors, no marketing budget, no plans for a "premium tier." The tools are free because the value is in helping you avoid overpaying — charging you to avoid getting overcharged felt wrong.
If you've got feedback, a bug to report, or an idea for a tool — hit the feedback button on any page. I read every message and reply when I can.
Twelve free tools covering the full rental lifecycle:
Plus the Trip Wizard that walks you through the entire rental from booking to return, the complete rental car guide, brand-specific fuel policy pages for Hertz, Enterprise, Avis, and all 10 major brands compared, plus 30+ tip articles.
Because charging you money to avoid getting overcharged felt wrong.
No accounts. No ads. No tracking pixels selling your behavior to advertisers. Your rental info stays on your device — calculations run in the browser, not on a server.
RentRight earns a small commission when readers buy products we recommend on Amazon (clearly labeled). That's it. The price you pay is the same whether you click our link or go to Amazon directly. No paywall, no "premium tier," and no plan to add one.
